Christmas will be a little different for Private Louise Joselyn this year.

She will spend the festive season at sea.

Private Joselyn has been deployed to the Transport Security Element (TSE) of the 13th Combat Services Support Battalion and is embarked in Australian Defence Vessel Cape Inscription.

It is her first time serving alongside Navy personnel since she joined the Army Reserve in 2016.

“My first time at sea has been quite exciting, with a friendly crew,” she said.

“It is a very different environment and I am keen to learn how the ship and its company work.

“It is a great opportunity to see some places I never would have had the opportunity to otherwise, and participate on board in a range of evolutions.”

Based in Perth, Private Joselyn joined the Army Reserve to pursue opportunities outside the office environment.

And she wanted to travel.

She is an occupational therapist in civilian life.

She recently completed her studies at Edith Cowan University, but is now finalising her thesis.

“Being deployed is a bit of a juggling act but a great opportunity to continue my studies and career progression, while also serving with the Army Reserve,” Private Joselyn said.

With Cape Inscription deployed in Australia’s northern waters in support of Operation Resolute over the festive period, Private Joselyn said she looked forward to experiencing a Navy Christmas at sea.
