“I’m lost for words”, was what one Tumbarumba farmer said when a Mack water tanker from Air Force’s Richmond-based No. 65 Squadron rolled through his front gate with 15,000 litres of water to fill up his dam.

Farmer Rod Daisley’s property was almost totally dry when No. 65 Squadron electrician Leading Aircraftman Corrie Street and carpenter Leading Aircraftwoman Tiane Westland arrived at his farm with the much-needed water on January 21.

“The dam was almost out of water and pretty muddy, so I was fairly desperate for some water,” Mr Daisley said.

“Having the RAAF come to my place with the water was great – it’s amazing the support we’ve been getting.”

Leading Aircraftman Street said he found his role in Operation Bushfire Assist very rewarding.

“This is what we joined up to do, to help our fellow Australians in their time of need,” he said.

“Everyone, wherever we go, has been really happy to see us.”
