Soldiers from 3 Brigade’s 3rd Combat Engineer Regiment have brightened the lives of hundreds of North Queensland widows through a community engagement activity with Legacy Townsville.
The soldiers conducted phone calls with more than 230 residents to have a chat and ensure they are happy and healthy.
Regimental duty non-commissioned officer of 3rd Combat Engineer Regiment, Corporal Max Martin, is one of the soldiers who took the time to check on the widows and said it really boosted morale.
“It feels good to be involved and to help the community out where we can,” Corporal Martin said.
“The widows we spoke to were really lovely on the phone and most were happy to have a chat.
“A phone conversation might seem like a small thing, but it was nice to just have a relaxed conversation with Defence families, past and present, and it was definitely a morale booster.”
