New Australian Defence Force Command Team
4 April 2014
Air Marshal Mark Binskin will become the 20th Chief of the Defence Force after the Government recommended a number of senior Australian Defence Force appointments on 4 April.
Air Marshal Binskin, currently VCDF, will officially be sworn in to become CDF when General David Hurley completes his tenure in July.
As CDF, Air Marshal Binskin will guide the Australian Defence Force over the next four years while Australia winds down operations in Afghanistan and introduces a range of new military capabilities.
General Hurley will complete his tenure on 3 July, after more than four decades of service which have included overseeing operations in Afghanistan, Timor-Leste and the Solomon Islands, and service in Somalia.
The Government will also recommend the Governor-General appoint Vice Admiral Ray Griggs as Vice Chief of the Defence Force and Rear Admiral Tim Barrett as the incoming Chief of Navy. Both would commence their appointments on 3 July 2014 for a period of four years.
The Government will recommend that the Chief of Army, Lieutenant General David Morrison and the Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Geoff Brown remain in their current positions until July 2015.
