Response to reporting by ABC on contamination near Army Aviation Centre Oakey

11 August 2016

Defence wishes to correct the record in relation to the ABC article “Oakey contamination: Residents furious about rates increase despite some land being unusable” that was posted on Thursday the 11th of August.

The article states that the contamination plume is expected to spread for the next 100 years.

The recently released environmental assessment report does not state that the contamination will spread through the town over the next 100 years.

The modelling that is shown in the report is what might exist if absolutely nothing was done to address these compounds in groundwater.

Defence is actively looking at options to address management of these compounds on and in the vicinity of the Army Aviation Base at Oakey.
