Impersonation Scam warning

22 May 2018

Defence is aware of an email and telephone campaign involving unknown parties sending emails and making calls to prominent businesses impersonating senior Defence officials, including the Secretary of Defence Mr Greg Moriarty.

The campaign appears to be an attempt to defraud or extort.

Defence is consulting with the AFP in relation to this matter.

Defence advises anyone who receives a suspicious approach to not respond or engage in any telephone calls, emails or contacts.

If you believe you have been contacted please advise the Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network (ACORN.gov.au).
