Vice Chief of Defence Force attends Manama Dialogue

Vice Chief of Defence Force, Air Marshal Mark Binskin, has participated in a key Middle East security forum in Bahrain - the eighth International Institute for Strategic Studies Regional Security Summit: ‘The Manama Dialogue’.
The Manama Dialogue was conducted from 7 to 9 December. It is the primary security forum for the Gulf and the Middle East and attracted senior representatives from more than 20 countries. The dialogue was an opportunity to exchange views on current security issues and emerging strategic challenges in the region.
Air Marshal Binskin participated in the dialogue’s plenary discussion on strategic reassurance and deterrence.
“The dialogue discussed the shared security challenges facing the region and the importance of strong regional partnerships in their resolution,” Air Marshal Binskin said.
Syria featured prominently in discussions, with participants sharing views on prospects for a political settlement and international community assistance for the deteriorating humanitarian situation.
During the dialogue, Air Marshal Binskin met with a number of senior officials including the United Kingdom Chief of the Defence Staff, General Sir David Richards, the French Chief of the Defence Staff, Admiral Edouard Guillaud and the Pakistani Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Asif Sandila. Air Marshal Binskin reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to working with regional partners to enhance security cooperation in the Middle East.
