A single-vehicle accident occurred during a routine Army training activity on the Holsworthy Range in New South Wales about 8:45am (AEDT) today.

A total of 18 Army members were injured in the accident. Two of the injured were transported by air to Sydney metropolitan hospitals and 11 were transported by road.

The remaining five injured members were treated on site before being transported to the Holsworthy Military Hospital. The exact details of the injuries are being confirmed.

One of the injured soldiers has been categorised as critical. The member’s next of kin has been notified.

Notification of the next of kin of the remaining injured members is under way. Army will not release the personal details of any of the members at this stage.

The Australian Defence Force Investigative Service is working with the New South Wales Police and ComCare to determine the exact nature and details of the accident. Until these details are known it would be inappropriate to speculate on the cause of the accident.
