Update on Navy seaboat incident off Darwin

27 July 2011

A group of civilians and military personnel, involved in a Royal Australian Navy sea boat incident off Darwin this morning, have been cleared of serious injury by medical authorities.

The rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB) overturned as it was in the process of transferring members of the Defence Force Remuneration Tribunal, support staff and Defence Force personnel from the patrol boat HMAS Maitland to the frigate HMAS Darwin.

Five members of the Tribunal visit team were taken to hospital. All have since been released.

A formal Inquiry under the Defence Inquiry Regulations will be convened to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
