RAAF Roulettes to display at the Birdsville Races
28 August 2012
The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Roulettes will perform at the Birdsville races at 2:30pm on 31 August and 2:50pm on 1 September 2012.
The aerobatic display team will perform their special venue show display in 6 Pilatus PC-9A aircraft, a two-seat single-engine turboprop aircraft that is the advanced training aircraft of the Australian Defence Force.
Throughout the display each pilot will maintain their aircraft only three metres from each other while conducting aerobatics and fly pasts down to 200ft above the ground and at speeds up to 550km/h.
The team comprises seven members, six of whom fly the display and Roulette Seven who provides commentary and will be available to answer questions on the Roulettes and their display.
The Birdsville Racing Carnival was first held in 1882 as an event for hack and stock horses and drew approximately 150 local spectators.
It now regularly draws crowds of over 6000 and strongly supports fund raising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Further information on the Roulettes including photos and information on team members can be found at this link: http://www.defence.gov.au/raaf/roulettes
Display is subject to operational requirements.
