RAAF member seriously injured in explosion during Talisman Sabre

25 July 2011

At approximately 9.30am this morning a member of the Royal Australian Air Force participating in Talisman Sabre 2011 was seriously injured in an explosion at Rockhampton Airport.

Talisman Sabre 2011 spokesman Brigadier Bob Brown said the male RAAF member was inside a hired portable toilet when it exploded.

“The cause of the explosion is unknown and is being investigated,” Brigadier Brown said.

“The Royal Australian Air Force member received immediate first aid from his colleagues and he was taken to the Rockhampton Base Hospital with severe burns.”

The injured airman will be transferred to Brisbane Hospital later today.

The ADF is working closely with Queensland authorities to investigate the incident.
