Queensland employers recognised for supporting Defence Reservists
30 April 2014Queensland employers who have been particularly supportive of employees who also serve in the Defence Reserves have been publicly recognised.
The Defence Reserves Support Council last night hosted the state Defence Employer Support Awards.
The Council’s State Chair Margaret Goody said the awards recognised ongoing, outstanding efforts to encourage a staff member who serves in the Navy, Army or Air Force Reserve.
This year’s winners were Flight Centre Queensland (large business), Ian Weigh Toyota (medium business), Woody Point Pharmacy (small business) and Joint Logistic Unit – North Queensland (public sector).
Ms Goody said the awards were particularly meaningful to the winners because they were nominated by their Reservist employees.
The awards night provided an opportunity for Reservist employers to network and discuss their positive experiences of having Reservists on their staff.
It was also a chance for employers to find out more about the programs and activities that Defence Reserves Support has to offer, so they can gain a better understanding of the many roles that Reservists undertake in the ADF and how those skills are transferable to the civilian workplace.
