New Anglican Bishop to the ADF
5 July 2013Bishop Ian Lambert was today officially commissioned as the new Anglican Bishop to the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
During a ceremony in St Paul’s Chapel, Royal Military College (RMC) Duntroon, Bishop Lambert was installed as the chief minister and pastor within the Defence community by the Primate of the Anglican Church of Australia, The Most Reverend Phillip Aspinall.
The role of the Bishop to the ADF is to promote unity, discipline and the mission of the church in all Defence units and communities, at home and overseas.
Bishop Lambert said he felt blessed to have the opportunity to promote the Defence Anglican focus, to ignite and refresh the souls of Chaplains so that they in turn can help personnel and their families understand the place of God in lives.
“I look forward to my new ministry in support of those that serve their country so selflessly,” Bishop Lambert said.
The ceremony was attended by the Vice Chief of the Defence Force, Air Marshal Mark Binskin, AO, the Chiefs of the Navy, Army and Air Force and members of the Religious Advisory Committee to the Services, as well as representatives of the Defence community from many religious denominations.
