Middle East Logistics and Base Support Contract

7 July 2011

A contract with Serco Australia Pty Ltd has been signed to provide logistic and base support to Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel deployed at Al Minhad Air Base (AMAB) in theUnited Arab Emirates.

Serco Australia was selected for the Middle East Logistics and Base Support (MELABS) contract on the basis that it offered best value for money for the delivery of seventeen services including catering, utilities management, waste disposal, facilities, equipment and grounds maintenance, and asset hire.

The MELABS contract will deliver more efficient logistic support services by replacing a number of existing contracts and standing offers with a single prime contractor. It also offers increased flexibility in the employment of ADF personnel at AMAB.

The two year contract provides a more cost effective solution due to increased security of tenure for the contractor and the ability to amortise costs over a longer term, while providing more flexibility in response to the changing scale and scope of operations in the Middle East.
