Investigation into allegations of inappropriate behaviour
6 November 2013
The Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Ray Griggs AO CSC RAN said today the Australian Defence Force Investigative Service (ADFIS) is investigating allegations of inappropriate behaviour by some members of a ship’s company.
"The allegations were raised on Monday by one of our sailors, the matter was quickly reported through the chain of command for further investigation," said Vice Admiral Griggs.
Following an initial assessment, ADFIS commenced a formal investigation yesterday.
"I applaud any member of the Navy who has the courage to raise concerns like these and I encourage anyone who is aware of, or who experiences, unacceptable behaviour to do the same.
"The alleged behaviours are simply not consistent with Navy values. Navy does not tolerate inappropriate behaviour and will act accordingly if any of the allegations are substantiated," Vice Admiral Griggs said.
As the investigation is in its early stages no further details will be provided at this time.
