Industry engagement for investment in Randwick Barracks accommodation
28 October 2021
Defence is set to commence engagement with industry in relation to the delivery of 991 new contemporary live-in accommodation units at Randwick Barracks in Sydney.
A Defence spokesperson said the program of work will provide live-in accommodation that is aligned to an integrated estate strategy and is affordable, safe and sustainable.
“The Defence estate is a critical enabler of a more capable, agile and potent Defence capability that supports the generation and sustainment of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and is a place where people live and work,” the spokesperson said.
“Defence recognises that providing live-in accommodation to ADF personnel is not only a major contributor to Defence capability but also to the economy of the local community.
“The Project will result in job creation during the construction phase and an ongoing injection into the local economy through spending from the ADF residents who take up occupancy in the units once constructed.
“Defence is committed to the community surrounding Randwick Barracks and this investment will mean more ADF members living in the region, dropping into local cafes and supporting local businesses.”
In developing options for the delivery of the project, Defence will explore the use of private equity investment via a Public Private Partnership Model and other delivery options.
Private equity investment in Defence accommodation plays a significant role in developing innovation, making capability improvements, creating jobs and providing opportunities for Australian businesses.
Defence will engage industry through expressions of interest for options to plan, design, construct, finance and deliver the ongoing operations associated with the Project. Any contracts and opportunities will be released and reported on AusTender.
