Defence statement on RAAF Base Williamtown Tap Water

27 January 2016

On 19 January, personnel at RAAF Base Williamtown noticed an unusual smell in the mains water supply at a few fire-reel outlets on base.

Defence immediately requested testing of the tap water, and as a precaution, provided bottled drinking water to all personnel on base.

Defence's first priority is to ensure the health and wellbeing of all personnel - including ADF members, Defence civilians and contractors on Defence facilities.

Environmental Health Officer testing has confirmed that the tests results show the water at RAAF Base Williamtown is safe for both consumption and recreational use, and was not found to be contaminated with perfluorooctane sulphonate or perfluorooctanoic acid.
