Death of a naval officer in a motor vehicle accident in Darwin

Defence can confirm that at approximately 3 pm Darwin local time yesterday, Thursday, 12 June 2014 a Naval officer, was killed as a result of a car accident on the Stuart Highway in the Darwin suburb of Woolner.

A second naval officer, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was injured in the accident. The injured officer was transferred to Darwin Hospital and treated for lacerations and a shoulder injury. This officer is in a stable condition.

Navy is providing support to both officers’ families.

The Navy extends its condolences to the deceased officer’s family and to the member’s friends and colleagues in the Royal Australian Navy.

As the accident under investigation by local authorities Navy is unable to make any further comment at this time.
