Australian soldiers killed in Afghanistan

29 October 2011

Defence can confirm that three Australian soldiers were killed and seven others wounded in an incident in Afghanistan on the morning of 29 October 2011 local time. The Next of Kin have been notified.

An Afghan interpreter was also killed in the incident.

The Australian soldiers wounded in the incident are currently being treated at ISAF medical facilities.

Defence is currently consolidating information from the area of operations and will announce further details when the facts are available and confirmed.

Defence is working closely with the families of those affected by this terrible incident.
