Australian Defence Force member arrested in Canberra

19 August 2014

An officer cadet from the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) was arrested by the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Policing on Tuesday, 19 August 2014 in relation to two alleged sexual assault offences.

Two female officer cadets reported the allegations separately to ADFA staff on Monday, 18 August 2014, who immediately referred the matter to the Australian Defence Force Investigative Service (ADFIS). ADFIS subsequently referred the allegations to the ACT Policing the same day.

The alleged offences are reported to have occurred in June 2013 and February 2014.

Defence is assisting the ACT Policing with their enquiries.

Defence is providing all appropriate support to the individuals concerned.

As the civilian police investigation into this matter is ongoing, Defence will not make any further comment on this matter at this time, however, will provide updates on the progress of these matters when it is appropriate to do so.
