ADFA cadet charged

28 May 2012

A foreign cadet who is attending ADFA will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday 29 May in relation to an alleged incident involving acts of indecency at ADFA in early May.

The Australian Defence Force and the Australian Defence Force Academy takes such allegations very seriously.

ADFA cadets brought this matter to the attention of the ADFA senior leadership. As soon as the leadership was made aware of this matter, they notified the Australian Defence Force Investigative Service (ADFIS) and ACT Policing.

The safety and wellbeing of cadets at ADFA is our priority. Defence is providing ongoing support to all parties involved in this matter.

ADFA expects all of its people to adhere to the highest standards of behaviour. The vast majority of ADFA Cadets understand and conform to these high standards. The conduct that is alleged in this matter is completely at odds with those standards and goes against the Academy's values.

As this matter will go before the ACT Courts, it is not appropriate to make further comment at this time.
