2014 Chief of Army’s exercise concludes

24 September 2014

The 2014 Chief of Army’s exercise concluded in Brisbane yesterday following two days of discussions with international and Australian military personnel and academics.

The exercise included three plenary sessions on the lessons learned from contemporary operations, regional engagement and on modernisation, along with small group discussions allowing participants to share their experiences and ideas for land power in the Indo-Pacific region.

The Chief of Army, Lieutenant General David Morrison, AO, said the exercise had been productive and thought provoking.

“The discussions and debate we have had over the past two days have been invaluable in shaping how we look and engage with modernisation,” LTGEN Morrison said.

“This will not only help our land forces today, but will ensure our Land Forces are more efficient, more effective and more secure into the future.”

During the exercise, LTGEN Morrison launched the Land Warfare Doctrine 1 – The Fundamentals of Land Power, which is Army’s capstone publication; and the Future Land Warfare Report, which is Army’s assessment of the future land operational environment.

“Over the last year, the Australian Army has transitioned from our longest period of sustained operations; to transforming and posturing our forces for the contingencies of the future,” LTGEN Morrison said.

“Both of these documents represent tangible evidence of Army’s commitment to consider a broad range of ideas, and demonstrate we are on a path of continuous modernisation.”

Assistant Minister for Defence, The Hon Stuart Robert MP and LTGEN Morrison launched the new Australian Multicam Camouflage Uniform (AMCU) which is manufactured by Australian companies and will be rolled out across the Army from October 2014.

“It is my responsibility as Chief of Army to raise, train and sustain the Australian Army to meet the direction of government. The AMCU is an extension of this responsibility – preparing and outfitting our soldiers with high quality, cutting edge clothing and equipment that will support them in their service,” LTGEN Morrison said.

“The AMCU in the field and combat variations use a tested Australian Multi-Camouflage Pattern that will take our soldiers from the bush, to the desert and into the jungle.”
