Seventh time’s the charm
The Army women’s team won a seventh national title as Army claimed a trio of trophies at the ADF Football Federation (ADFFF) National Football Tournament.
A visiting Royal Marines men’s and veteran’s team added an international edge to the tournament, held in Sydney last month, winning the overall title.
The Army’s open men’s side were ADF national champions after a fiercely contested round-robin competition.
OCDT Christian Layland said winning the championship was a tremendous achievement.
“It reflects the commitment and teamwork of both the players and coaching staff,” OCDT Layland said.
“Winning the title is testament to the culture and high standards the team created and adhered to in a short space of time. I am incredibly proud of every member of the squad.”
The Army women’s team’s sustained performance reflected the commitment, preparation and teamwork required to compete at the highest level of ADF representative football.
Army also claimed victory in the inaugural over-30s women’s competition, introduced this year to broaden participation and create another pathway for women to represent their service. It featured an Army team against a combined Air Force and Navy side, adding a new and welcome dimension to the tournament.
